Home Based Remedy For Angina

by Sharon Hopkins

Angina attack is different from heart attack but it seems similar due to its chest-crushing severity. It lasts for about ten minutes. People with angina attacks are the ideal candidates of heart attacks. It is the ideal sign of an impending heart attack. If you have already had an angina attack you might have been prescribed some medications. But you can also follow the tips given below to get immediate relief:

• Go vegetarian: If your diet is high in meat, butter and other dairy products along with fried foods, then rest assured that your cholesterol levels in the blood are at the highest. You can easily lower this by following a vegetarian diet. Skip all the animal products except skim milk, egg whites and nonfat yogurt. People who have opted for this diet found the severity and frequency of their angina pain reducing. Vegetarian diet prevents angina pain and keeps arteries clean because only the animal products like meat, milk egg yolks and other animal products are rich in cholesterol. They also have plenty of saturated fats that the body converts to cholesterol.

• Choose lean and light meat: But if you are an avid non-vegetarian eater, opt for lean meat, fish and poultry and limit your intake to less than six ounces per day. Choose cuts that are lean and stripped of all visible fats. Omit all the organ meats like liver, kidney and heart from your diet. Remove the skin from poultry before cooking.

• Increase your antioxidants: Vitamins A, C and E are the antioxidants that have been shown to prevent or control angina pain. Vegetarian diet is rich in these antioxidants. When your diet is rich in fruits, vegetables and grains, you can be rest assured that your body gets all the required nutrients.

• Take aspirin: Taking a regular dose of aspirin as recommended by the doctor can reduce heart attack risk. One small baby aspirin daily has helped patients with unstable angina, which is what happens when you are resting or sleeping. Aspirin prevents the formation of blood clots. Formation of clots prevents blood from flowing easily though the arteries and that can lead to heart attacks. But get your doctor’s approval before starting your aspirin dose. This is because you can experience some side effects like internal bleeding and it could interact with other medications that you are taking.

• Go for regular workout: If you exercise intensely, there are chances that you might experience angina pain. But still workout regularly. Exercise helps in improving the blood flow to the heart and also relieves stress that can trigger angina attacks. If you are an angina patient, you might experience pain when you increase your exercise levels. The solution is that you exercise till you start feeling the pain, then stop until the pain subsides and then continue. You can take nitroglycerin pills to ease the pain. But in the long run, an exercise regimen will improve exercise tolerance and the angina pain occurring only when your exercise stress goes up.

• Take precautions: Angina patients need to follow certain precautions. Avoid inhaling carbon dioxide, which can trigger angina attacks, so run in an area away from traffic. If you live in the city, exercise indoors. Exercising in bitter cold can trigger angina attacks so cover your face with a scarf.

• Raise your head: If you have angina attacks at night, raise your head off the bed three or four inches to reduce the number of attacks. When you sleep in this position, more blood pools into your legs so that no blood returns to the heart’s narrowed arteries. This may also reduce the need of taking nitroglycerine. But always consult your doctor before stopping or reducing any medication.

• Keep feet down: If you do not get angina attacks at night, the other alternative is to sit on the edge of the bed with feet on the floor. This has the same effect as taking nitroglycerin. But if the symptoms do not subside, take medications.

• Relax for some time: Going in for some daily relaxation technique like yoga, meditation, stretching or visualization. The method of relaxation is not that important than doing it daily. Going for a class is more helpful than reading a tape or book.

Sharon Hopkins has been managing a number of natural home remedies websites, such as http://www.home-remedies-for-you.com provides information on different uses of the home remedies and natural cures. Angina can lead to heart attack but can be prevented by doing some simple cures.

Panic Attack Treatment

by L.D. Mairet

There are many different treatments associated with panic attacks. The first thing you should consider is seeing your primary care physician. Your primary care physician can help prescribe medications to overcome the immediate symptoms that you might be experiencing.

Next, you should seek a counselor or psychiatrist, preferably one that is experienced with anxiety disorders. A counselor will be able to help you work out any underlying problems that might be triggering your panic attacks. Your counselor will help determine a course of action for your treatments.

There are many natural methods to treating panic disorder. I am a panic disorder survivor and have been for over a year. I had approximately 15 recurring panic attacks daily. I eventually overcame my panic disorder and have been panic free and med free for almost a year now. I still treat myself with natural methods to help reduce my anxiety.

One key factor in the treatment of my panic attacks was a book Panic Away. Yes, a simple book helped me to overcome the fear in my life. This book along with other natural treatments that I learned along the way helped me end the cycle of my panic.

Keep checking back for more information on the treatment of panic attacks. I will be revealing all my information on the different factors that I use in my lifestyle to help manage my panic and anxiety disorder.

L.D Mairet has treated her panic disorder by natural methods only and has been panic and med free for almost 1 year now. What's Blue Cross All About?

by Jay Shipper

Blue Cross was started in 1929 by Justin Ford Kimball, at Baylor University in Dallas, Texas. It was developed to guarantee teachers 21 days of hospital care for $6 a year. Later on the plan was enlarged to other people in the Dallas area and then throughout the country.

In 1939 the term Blue Cross was used to include other plans as well. Blue Cross is a name used by an association of health insurance plans throughout the United States.

It was developed in 1929, by Justin Ford Kimball, at Baylor University in Dallas, Texas. The first plan guaranteed teachers The plan was extended to other employee groups in Dallas, and then nationally. The American Hospital Association (AHA) adopted the Blue Cross symbol in 1939 as the emblem for plans meeting certain standards.

So as it stands today Blue Cross is an independent membership association working on a service basis and providing protection against the costs mainly of hospital care. Benefit payments are made directly to the hospital. Benefits vary among various Blue Cross associations.

And then there is Blue Shield which, rather than covering hospital care, provides protection on a service basis against the cost of surgical and medical care in a limited geographical area. The actual Blue Cross, which was a blue Greek Cross, was created by the artist Joseph Binder under the auspices of E A van Steenwijk who was the Company secretary of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota.

The Blue Cross began now to be used in other parts of the country as well. At present it is a national trade organization linking 40 health insurance companies in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico together.

Supposedly, Blue Cross operations are considered to happen as franchises in specifically designated regions. At present these services are available in every state wihin the United States and every Canadian province

Blue Cross is very prevalent in providing coverage to State as well as Federal government employees and they are also very important in the administration of Social Security. There is a problem with health insurance in the United States.

There is a conflict between the need for the insurance company to make money versus the need of their clients to remain healthy. This need to make money has become so uncontrolled that one third of the population in the US can not afford medical insurance and medical bills today are the major cause for bankruptcies. This is why state and federal regulation of health insurance companies is necessary.

On the other hand medical insurance companies could hypothetically face unforeseen events such as the chicken flu where a large percentage of their clients all of a sudden face horrendous hospital bills.

Theoretically this could bankrupt the insurance company within a very short timeframe. So to prevent this situation medical insurance companies use a variety of checks and balances to limit payments to beneficiaries.

And of course it is a well-known fact that those seeking health insurance are also those most likely to have medical problems being present or future ones. It is also known that if the cost of healthcare to the beneficiary is very low than the use of medical benefits will be much greater than if the cost is substantial.

So to find the balance where medical services are available when needed but not abused to the extend that for every paper cut you will make a visit to the doctor proper safeguards should be in place.

So in theory, if people would exercise, would eat healthy food, would avoid addictive substances, this would lower health insurance prices because the insurance companies would pay fewer doctor bills.

However, you could then also say that too much of the insurance premiums would be paid out in executive salaries or kept as profits by the company.

Jay Shipper is very interested in Blue Cross. http://blue-cross-basic-fed-blue.info

Back Massage: A Proven Way to Relieve Back Pain

by Saurabh Jain

Back pain is a common ailment; however, people may get better within a few weeks through massages. Massage is known to improve blood flow and eases tension, thus providing relaxation to muscles. While gentle massages are pleasurable, it does not necessarily offer relief to sufferers of acute low back pain. Combining massage with other treatments, such as physical therapy and chiropractic, is likely to produce best results. In addition, back massages, in combination with non-medical treatments, back exercises and good diet, ensures gradual pain relief.

Benefits of Back Massage Therapy

According to the American Massage Therapy Association, research proves that massage therapy provides many important health benefits, including:

Improvement in blood circulation in the body, which aids in the recovery of muscle soreness due to physical activity.

Relaxation of muscles for an improved range of motion. Muscle relaxation also helps in the treatment of insomnia.

Increased endorphin levels. The increase in endorphin levels is actually one of the greatest benefits of the massage therapy. Endorphins are body chemicals that lend a feel-good feeling, which is very effective in managing chronic pain.

It is important to ensure that precautions are exercised while receiving massage therapy. Your muscle should relax in response to the pressure applied by a massage therapist, in the absence of which, it is possible that muscles are inflamed. In such cases, you should not opt for back massages as a treatment option and consult his/her doctor for the treatment. Most muscle spasms require four massage treatments, usually spread over a six weeks period, to achieve best results. If muscle spasms do not respond to the neuromuscular therapy within two massages, try using another therapy.

If you have severe lower back pain, it is advisable that you undergo thorough medical checkup before commencing the massage therapy.

Saurabh Jain is the Executive Editor of Online Back pain resource, www.backpain-resources-online.com. He has developed this site to provide valuable information to people suffering from back pain. Discover the Health Benefits of Turmeric

by Dan Ho

Discover the Health Benefits of Turmeric

The health benefits of turmeric...

What if I told you there was a nutrient that had a myriad of health benefits, could help with a range of some of the most debilitating health conditions in the Western world, was cheap, and, lastly, was very very tasty.

Sounds too good to be true, I know, but that's exactly what turmeric offers.

The Health Benefits of Turmeric

Turmeric is a yellow spice that is used a great deal in Indian cuisine. Its history of use in India and China spans hundreds of years and these cultures have been received its many health benefits without even realizing just powerful it was.

In recent decades researchers discovered just how wonderful this culinary spice really is.

They learned that turmeric contains an active ingredient called curcumin that harbors both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Antioxidants, as we all now, play an important role in helping prevent free radicals from damaging our body's cells.

In addition, free radical damage often results in inflammation.

Our bodies are designed to fight this inflammation via our immune system...but in the process may become overburdened and, therefore, weakened from battling the constant free radical induced inflammation.

This is one of the best health benefits of turmeric because as both an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory it may aid our immune system indirectly.

Also, if you have arthritis, you may be reading more about the turmeric arthritis connection.

Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, studies are now suggesting that turmeric may help with arthritis because arthritis is characterized by painful inflammation of the joints.

Other than turmeric arthritis, curcumin, the active ingredient, is believed to help with Alzheimer's because of its anti-inflammatory properties.

In fact, Alzheimer's is a lot more rare in India than it is in the United States and turmeric is used a lot in their curry cooking.

Research has shown that in some towns and villages in India where turmeric use is especially high, there are almost no cases of Alzheimer's.

Keep in mind that this is merely correlation at this point. Nobody knows yet whether turmeric helps prevent Alzheimer's...but the preliminary evidence so far is promising.

Another condition that turmeric is being used for is psoriasis, which is a scaly, painful, and unsightly skin condition. Again, psoriasis is a condition characterized by inflammation....and turmeric's anti-inflammatory properties may be key in helping counter it.

Other studies have shown that turmeric may help lower cholesterol and have heart healthy benefits. It may reduce platelets from clumping together, which may help guard against atherosclerosis and improve blood circulation.

It is now also being studied for a possible role in protecting against certain types of cancer, such as skin cancer and breast cancer.

Some natural health experts believe that inflammation is often at the root of the overwhelming majority of serious health conditions and that controlling this inflammation should be our main focus if we want good health

In our opinion, turmeric's potent anti-inflammatory properties may be the reason the health benefits of turmeric extend so widely.

So, the next time you stay in to cook an ethnic dish, try adding some tasty and healthy turmeric.

Effective Cardio Workouts In Only 20 Minutes

by Ryan Cote

The perfect workout routine is one that combines strength training and some form of cardio. The problem is, most people hate doing cardio and will make up any excuse not to do it. A popular excuse is not having enough time. This article, however, will show you how you can spend only 20 minutes on a cardio workout and still reap the benefits.

So first of all, why is it necessary that you add cardio to your workouts? Most people understand the benefits of strength training because it adds muscle and muscle makes you healthier, more lean and stronger overall.

But what are the benefits of cardio? Here is a short list that names just a few:

- it helps reduce stress
- it burns calories which leads to weight loss
- it makes your heart and lungs stronger
- it reduces your risk of certain diseases
- it reduces depression and increases confidence
- it gives you more energy and helps you sleep better

To sum it up, adding cardio to your workout improves your health and well-being which leads to a better quality of life. Combine this with strength training and you're on your way to feeling great, fast.

So how can you reap the benefits of cardio in only 20 minutes per workout? It's called Interval Training and it can be applied to many different forms of cardio including boxing, running and biking.

The concept in a nutshell is shorter workouts, but higher intensity. This is accomplished by pushing hard for say two minutes and then slowing down for two minutes. If you repeat this cycle four more times then you have your 20 minutes. You could also do one minute hard, one minute easy and then repeat this nine more times.

Here is an example:

Interval training is perfect for running. If you're working out on a treadmill or running outdoors, it's the same routine. Start out with a warm up jog followed by two minutes of a challenging pace. This won't be your all out because you have to maintain it for two minutes, but a pace that will be very hard for you. You then follow this with two minutes of either a walk or a very slow jog. Repeat four more times and you've got yourself an effective cardio workout in only 20 minutes.

This concept can be applied to many different forms of cardio: two minutes hard, two minutes easy, repeat four more times. Or one minute hard, one minute easy, repeat nine more times.

You'll get your blood flowing, your heart pumping and reap all the benefits cardio has to offer...all in only 20 minutes.

Wellness Achieved Through Meditation

by Greg Mauro

The process of meditation used to calm your mind and lead to inner-peace is centuries old. The driving force behind meditation is that if one can attain a peaceful mind, they will be free from anxiety, worries and negative forces. Ideally, they will be in complete control of their mind - controlling thoughts, feelings and anxieties.

One of the most important aspects of meditation is breathing. For beginners, control and focus on breathing does not come easy. Many let their minds wander to things that preoccupy their days and lose focus. Mastering your breathing pattern is the first step towards mental wellness as it helps lay the groundwork for a calm mind.

A good seat and comfortable posture are ideal for meditation. Certain aspects to aim for include: straight (but not tense) back, head floating naturally above the shoulders, chin turned slightly down and pelvis tilted slightly forward. Most meditate while sitting down; sitting cross-legged is the most popular positioning. If you cannot get comfortable with these positions, try shifting around, but the main keys are to be relaxed with a straight back.

Many will often try to meditate while lying down. Be wary of this as it is easy to fall asleep. Though that can be relaxing in its own right, it does nothing in the process of bringing inner peace as you will find yourself waking up to the same mental disarray.

Meditation is a great way to promote personal wellness. Stress and anxiety derive from thoughts (usually negative) racing through the mind, destroying any sense of relaxation of contentment. Take time to meditate whenever you can. It doesn’t need to be everyday, or for long periods at a time. But every chance you get to clear your thoughts and focus on your inner-self will clear your goals and ambitions and put you on your way towards mental wellness.

Greg Mauro is a staff author at Health and Wellness Facts as well as Help For Health and its conglomerate sites.
